Dozens more Palestinians killed as US urges ceasefire deal

It had been feared the Democratic convention would be overshadowed by violent protests over the war in Gaza. That didn’t happen.

But away from Chicago, President Biden has been pushing Benjamin Netanyahu to finalise a ceasefire and hostages release deal with Hamas.

And today, the US envoy to the United Nations told the Security Council a deal is “now in sight”. On the ground in Gaza, the Israeli military has ramped up operations in Deir Al Balah and Khan Younis, killing dozens more Palestinians since dawn.
