Dublin riots: Irish police blame far-right ‘lunatic hooligans’ for violence

The Irish prime minister Leo Varadkar has condemned anti-immigrant rioters who went on the rampage in central Dublin last night – calling it an attack on Irish society and the rule of law.

34 people were arrested after the crowd set fire to vehicles, looted shops and clashed with riot police.

The unrest began after three children and a teaching assistant were injured in a stabbing attack outside a school.

Ireland’s police chief blamed what he called a “lunatic hooligan faction, driven by far right ideology”.
