Egg shortage could be start of bigger food crisis, says National Farmers Union

The National Farmers Union has warned that the current shortage of eggs could represent the beginning of a bigger food supply crisis.

It wants the government to take action to help farmers deal with the high costs of fuel, fertiliser and animal feed.

The NFU said the UK could be “sleepwalking” into a crisis with the future of fruit and vegetable supplies in jeopardy.
