Emmett Till: Biden signs proclamation to establish national monument honouring Black teenager murdered in racist lynching

President Biden has signed a proclamation to establish a national monument to honour Emmett Till, a Black teenager who was murdered by two white men in Mississippi, almost seven decades ago.

His killing, and the activism of his mother, helped to galvanise America’s civil rights movement.

The new monument will be built on three protected sites – including the place where Emmett Till was born, eighty two years ago.
