Energy bosses plead for extra support from government amid soaring prices

Industry leaders worst hit by the soaring gas prices have been pleading for extra support from the government, but that’s looking increasingly unlikely after the Treasury flatly denied the idea.

Some firms in sectors with high energy consumption have warned they could end up shutting down operations altogether.

But the government has promised consumers that the current cap on domestic energy prices will stay in place until next spring.
