English Channel deaths: Priti Patel offers joint patrols with France

Home Secretary Priti Patel has told MPs there is no quick fix to solve the migrant crisis in the English Channel.

But she is under pressure from Tory backbenchers to fulfil past promises to “stop the crossings” and “take back control of the country’s borders”.

When asked about pushing migrants back and processing their applications off-shore, she insisted that she didn’t rule out any action.

It has been announced Priti Patel will travel to meet with her French counterpart on the issue of crossings this weekend.
