Pressure from local authorities is making ministers reconsider their pledge to start re-opening English primary schools from the start of next month.
Teaching unions say they’re still not convinced it’s appropriate or practical – while Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have no planned date to follow suit. Downing Street now says they are planning “a cautious, phased return from the June 1st at the earliest”.
