Deputy prime minister and justice secretary Dominic Raab said during Prime Minister’s Questions today that the conviction rate for rape cases “has gone up, it is now at 69 per cent”.
But after questions from FactCheck, the Ministry of Justice has admitted that the stat is “out of date” and says it plans to correct the official parliamentary record.
The proportion of rape prosecutions that ended in conviction was 69.1 per cent between April and June 2022, Crown Prosecution Service figures show.
But this has since dropped to 61.9 per cent in the latest data, which covers the period July to September 2022.
