Vowing to “change the destiny of Brazil”, the far-right populist Jair Bolsonaro has become the country’s new President after a deeply divisive election. The former paratrooper won a sweeping victory after a campaign pledging to crack down on corruption and crime. But given his comments on women, gay rights and race, not to mention threats to drive his opponents out of the country, his critics are worried.
