Farmers hit by rural crime wave, with insurer blaming police cuts

If you live on a farm, chances are you’re a long way from police help. Figures released by the agricultural insurer NFU Mutual suggest farmers are bearing the brunt of a rise in rural crime, with organised criminal gangs stealing farm equipment to order. The firm says that rural areas have been particularly hard hit by cuts in police funding. Jane Dodge has been to Leicestershire, to meet one farmer who’s fallen victim to thieves.
