Field could be kicked out of Labour party

North of England Correspondent

The Labour chief whip has told the Birkenhead MP Frank Field he could be kicked out of the Labour party within two weeks, unless he reverses his decision to resign the whip in parliament.

Mr Field insisted he “absolutely” wanted to stay a Labour member and was considering whether to hire a solicitor to fight any attempt to expel him. The former minister resigned earlier this week, claiming Labour was now governed by a “culture of nastiness and intimidation”.
