Fiery US politician becomes internet sensation

“I’m coming. Both barrels. Guns loaded.” An Ohio councilman becomes an internet hit after a passionate appeal to be nominated as a local Republican candidate.

Councilman Phil Davison made a six-minute speech to Republican leaders in Canton and Stark County on Wednesday in a bid to be nominated as the local treasurer.

Mr Davison, pacing back and forth and shouting at times, said the nomination would send a message to Democrats that “I’m coming. Both barrels. Guns loaded.”

“I will not apologise for my tone tonight!” Mr Davison says whilst fiercely gesturing from the podium.

A video of the impassioned appeal has spread across internet sites receiving hundreds of thousands of views since it appeared earlier this week.

According to local reports Mr Davison, who has been a Minerva councilman for 13 years, said his passion was no act.

“This is a real person. I’m the guy who comes over for the barbecue on the 4th July and has some ribs, maybe a beer, and you know, I spill some on my shirt and…he’s real,” he said.

Despite his speech Mr Davison’s appeal was not successful. He lost out on the nomination to Alex Zumbar of North Canton.
