Firefighters battle ‘apocalypse’ on Lancashire moors

The ground temperature has soared to 500 degrees Celsius, hot enough to melt tyres, as hundreds of firefighters and soldiers continue to battle the wildfires still raging across the Lancashire moors. One fire chief described the scene as like an “apocalypse”. Crews from around the country have joined forces, including helicopters dropping thousands of litres of water to douse the flames. We report from Winter Hill.
