Forecasters warn of ‘torrential downpours’ as Whaley Bridge dam relief efforts continue

Emergency teams in Whaley Bridge are racing to shore up the damaged dam as the area has so far escaped the heavy rain which forecasters had predicted. Water levels have been reduced by three metres.

But dozens more homes have been evacuated while police warned the threat to life in the town was still ‘very high’.
