French far-right leader Jean-Marie Le Pen dies aged 96

He was the godfather of the far right in Europe and the father of the woman who could take far right-wing politics all the way into France’s Elysee Palace.

Jean-Marie Le Pen founded the National Front but it is his daughter Marine who has softened the party’s image, taking it all the way to the top of French politics.

The price of her rise was to disown her own father, who’s died aged 96.
