French president meets with rival party leaders after he loses parliamentary majority

The French president Emmanuel Macron has been meeting rival party leaders for talks – after his centrist group lost its majority in last week’s parliamentary elections.

Mr Macron rejected an offer of resignation by the prime minister Elizabeth Borne – saying the government had to “stay on task and act”.
