Gaza running out of fuel, power and food as death toll passes 1000

This afternoon the electricity went off in Gaza when the only power station ran out of fuel as Israel’s total siege began to bite – and meanwhile the aerial bombardment continues unabated.

Palestinian officials say the death toll has now risen to over a thousand since the retaliatory strikes began. Overwhelmed local hospitals are becoming a place of shelter for desperate civilians seeking safety from the shelling.
