Government promises house building reform – but can it hit own targets?

Councils in England which ‘drag their feet’ over housing development applications could face action, and could even see their planning powers taken away, the housing secretary Michael Gove has warned.

Mr Gove said there was no excuse for councils not to have plans to deliver new homes in their area, naming seven local authorities he said had failed to do so for years. Labour accused the Government of sending house-building into crisis.
