Government reassures EU citizens over right to remain

Government ministers went out of their way today to reassure EU citizens in the UK that dealing with a new settlement scheme, allowing them to stay on after Brexit, will not be difficult.

Announcing the details, Home Secretary Sajid Javid said “we will be looking to grant applications, not for reasons to refuse”.

But if over three million EU citizens here do apply, will the Home Office be able to live up to Mr Javid’s promise that this will not be another Windrush?
