A Greek F-16 fighter jet has crashed in Spain killing 10 people just hours after many in Greece celebrated an election victory for a populist far-left party.
The Greek F-16 fighter jet crashed during NATO training in Spain, a defence ministry spokesman said, killing ten people and injuring 16.
Images from the scene show the fireball and black smoke that resulted from the accident, after it crashed into a number of other planes.
“The plane, part of the Tactical Leadership Programme of NATO was carrying out a [training] exercise when during the take-off the plane lost power, crashing into the parking area for planes, crashing into various planes that were parked there,” says the defence ministry.
Local media reports suggest that the pilot performed a wrong manoeuvre during takeoff, with both pilots reported among the dead.
The plane crashed happened near Albacete in the south east of the country.
