Allegations of phone-hacking in 2011, particularly that the News of the World hacked murdered schoolgirl Milly Dowler’s voicemail, closed the paper and kicked off a scandal which led to resignations and arrests at the top of Britain’s media and political elite, a major public inquiry and the attempted reform of the press.
