Hammond says UK ‘natural partner’ for China on new silk road

Leaders from around the world are gathering in Beijing for the second Belt and Road summit, President Xi’s grand plan to create new trade routes and a worldwide network of infrastructure projects, mainly funded by Chinese loans.

The Chancellor Philip Hammond is representing the UK, but the United States is staying away altogether, denouncing China’s policy as “debt diplomacy”.
