Hawaii wildfires: Over 80 people dead

Washington Correspondent

Officials in Hawaii are trying to determine how devastating wildfires were able to rip through the historic town of Lahaina on the island of Maui so quickly and without warning.

More than 80 people have died in the fires over the past three days, and that number is expected to rise.

Rescuers are searching the ashes of destroyed homes  for anyone still alive.

Our Washington Correspondent Siobhan Kennedy is on the island of Maui – and has been to the War Memorial Centre in Wailuku, where some of the survivors are taking shelter.
