Hip hop celebrates its 50th birthday

Fifty years ago today, a birthday party in the Bronx started what’s now the most commercially successful music genre in the world.

Hip hop is now part of the mainstream, but it wasn’t always that way. As it reaches a mature middle age, hip hop is about to get its own museum.
