As young clubbers cut shapes to the early house sound in London, Channel 4 News hears from a DJ making his mark on the music scene, Kezza Boyd, aka Mr Shapes.
I was born in 1972 and grew up in a household of different genres of music, but in 1985 I discovered acid house and I took up breakdancing as a hobby.
Like a lot people of my generation, I took the wrong path in life until I discovered house music. I had always been influenced by house but it wasn’t until I was much older that it became a major part of my life.
House music allowed me to express myself and be confident enough to show others that I had lost weight.I now was healthier and I feeling good about myself. I now see a clearer positive path just through the music and I feel I have something positive to pass on to those younger or older than me interested in what I do.
I’ve experienced the jungle and funky house scene but in 2012 I went deep into house or full house.
Today the music is more electrifying and a lot of more inspiring for me now than it was when I was a teenager. The feeling I get from house music is unexplainable but positive because of the people I’ve met and the changes I’ve made to my life.
Raving is a good healthy release to a stressful week the music has the power to bring people together that appreciate the same sound.
It’s an international sound followed by millions, new and old.
House music has a stigma attached to it, but I love it for the sound and the way it motivates people. I like to show its positive side through my music and dance.
