Widely expected, how would a rise in interest rates in the next few months affect homeowners around the country?

The days of the cheap mortgage could be coming to an end: new figures show high street lenders are hiking their rates. In the last month alone – some 36 mortgage deals have got more expensive.

The Bank of England is expected to keep rates unchanged when it meets tomorrow – but governor Mark Carney has warned the first official rise since 2007 could happen by the end of the year. So how will that affect homeowners around the country?
