Huge swarm of locusts causes devastation in east Africa – as Jamal Osman reports from Kenya

The biggest swarm of locusts for decades sweeps across East Africa, and it’s threatening to wreak catastrophe on countries already struggling with food insecurity.

Somalia has already declared a state of emergency, with several swarms there devastating crops.

In Ethiopia more than a billion locusts have swarmed across the country and have spread south to Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.

Now there are fears the pests could spread further – to Eritrea and South Sudan.
