Hundreds of Europeans evacuated in fallout of Niger coup

Hundreds of French and European citizens are being evacuated from Niger after last week’s military coup.

Military flights have been laid on by the French government – following attacks on its embassy over the weekend by crowds of coup supporters.

The former French colony is situated in the heart of the Sahal and was seen as a key western ally in the fight against jihadists in the region.
