Hungary’s Orban criticised for coronavirus emergency decree

Victor Orban has run Hungary for a decade – and he’s long been accused of weakening the judiciary and freedom of the press. Now the prime minister is handling the coronavirus crisis by ruling through emergency decree, without any expiration date, after the Hungarian parliament voted it through.

Several EU states have protested that any emergency powers have to be proportionate and time-limited, but they haven’t taken any action so far.
