Hurricane Ida: Dozens killed in flooding in north-eastern US

At least 46 people have been killed in extreme flash flooding and tornadoes, as the remnants of Hurricane Ida swept across the north-eastern US.

Many of those who died were trapped in flooded basements or in submerged cars.

President Biden has declared a state of emergency in New York and New Jersey, and said tackling the destructive impact of climate change was a “matter of life and death”.
