‘I suspect there is a really strong emotional attachment there’: Clare Balding on the Queen’s horse-racing legacy

The sporting world is divided on how best to pay tribute to Queen Elizabeth this weekend. Football and boxing matches have been called off, but other sports like cricket and golf will go ahead, paying respects instead on the pitch.

One thing that was well known was the Queen’s love of one particular sport: horse racing, as was her joy when one of her horses won a race at Royal Ascot.

One of her trainers was Ian Balding – the presenter Clare Balding’s father, who joined us.
