The US Secretary of State has met mediators working on a ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas during a lightning trip to four countries in less than 24 hours.
Antony Blinken is trying to secure a truce in exchange for the release of hostages, amid growing concerns that Israel’s offensive is about to move onto Rafah, next to the Egyptian border – where more than half of Gaza’s population is sheltering.
We spoke to Karin von Hippel, who’s Director-General of the Royal United Services Institute and formerly of the US State Department and asked her if Blinken is going to actually achieve anything on this trip.
