Hospitals in major cities like Delhi and Mumbai are at breaking point, but the situation in many remote rural areas is even worse.

Around a quarter of a billion people live in Uttar Pradesh, India’s most populous state. Medical resources are scarce, and as Mandakini Gahlot reports families have resorted to turning living rooms into makeshift clinics to treat sick relatives at home.
