Spain is now considering relaxing some of its draconian lockdown measures, as official fatality rates begin to slow.
But the death toll inside its care homes – just as here in the UK – is believed to have been vastly underestimated.
When Madrid released figures that include deaths in care homes of elderly residents who had coronavirus symptoms but weren’t tested – the city’s death toll almost doubled.
