Iranians head to polls to elect new president

The future of Iran’s influence in the region will be shaped by what happens here today, as voters go to the polls to elect a new President. When you ask them, people on the street here see that attack in Syria as simply another hostile act by the United States against Iran. But it would be an exaggeration to say it is uppermost in voters’ minds. A desire for a wider peace, however, is a dominant, and perhaps determining, issue. President and now candidate Rouhani is seen as a peacemaker. his challenger, Mr Raisi, is less easy to categorise and virtually unknown on both the national and international stage.
