Irish PM Leo Varadkar announces exit in emotional speech

When proposed changes to the Irish constitution were comprehensively rejected in a referendum earlier this month, it was damaging for the Prime Minister Leo Varadkar who had backedthem. But few expected him to resign,  at least not so quickly.

Yet this morning, the media were alerted to a midday announcement. And then the man who first became Taoiseach in 2017, gave an emotional press conference.
