Olympic champion and 800m world record holder David Rudisha tells Channel 4 News reporter Paraic O’Brien that an Irish priest who trained him is “more than a father”.
David Rudisha smashed the 800m world record on Thursday night to take Olympic gold in spectacular style.
The 23-year old Kenyan benefited from an unlikely training regime set up by Irish missionaries led by Brother Colm O’Connell from Cork.
When asked by Channel 4 News reporter Paraic O’Brien if he wanted to give Brother O’Connell a message Rudisha said: “He has been a big inspiration to me. He’s the best coach I’ve ever met and trained with. I always tell him ‘you’re more than a father to me’.”
