President Trump has justified America’s lockdown, claiming that Sweden is – by contrast – ‘paying heavily’ in lives, with its more relaxed approach.

The Swedish government has trusted rather than ordered its people to follow social distancing rules, with most schools and businesses staying open.

Sweden’s death toll is higher than its Scandinavian neighbours, and the US president can not be the only world leader hoping its unique approach is eventually proved wrong.
