Israel approves law to become a Jewish nation-state

The Israeli parliament has approved a highly controversial law to define the country as a Jewish nation state – and remove Arabic as an official language.

Critics called it an “evil law” which turned Arabs and other minorities into second class citizens.

It’s likely to face a challenge at the Supreme Court, but Israel’s prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, hailed it as an “historic moment in the history of Zionism”.
