Israelis demand answers from Netanyahu over Hamas attack

His supporters used to call him ‘Mr Security’. But after last weekend’s attack, many Israelis are demanding answers from Benjamin Netanyahu and his government – their confidence in the military and intelligence services badly shaken.

Critics say his determination to cling to power and keep his far-right coalition partners happy left Israel vulnerable to attack – and shattered its image as a democracy where Jewish people could feel safe.
