Jihadi guilty of planning Poppy Day terror attack

A man inspired by Islamic State is convicted of planning a Lee Rigby-style attack around Remembrance Day.

Nadir Syed, 22, from west London, planned to launch the attack after listening to a speech by IS spokesman Abu Muhammad al-Adnani, which also urged extremists to target France.

He showed no reaction as he was convicted of preparation of terrorist acts.

Soldier Lee Rigby was murdered by Islamists near his barracks in Woolwich, south-east London, in 2013.

Michael Adebolajo and Michael Adebowale were sentenced to life imprisonment for his murder.

The jury at Woolwich Crown Court was unable to reach verdicts on Haseeb Hamayoon, 28, from west London, and Yousaf Syed, 20, of Buckinghamshire, and a retrial has been ordered.
