First, there was the politics, as Joe Biden and Rishi Sunak reaffirmed their joint commitment to the Good Friday Agreement – hailing the 25 years of peace it’s underpinned and expressing the hope that the Stormont power sharing administration could be restored.
With all that out of the way, the US president has been getting a warm, if rainy welcome in the Irish republic – starting with a visit to his family’s ancestral home in County Louth.
