Joe Root praised after apparently saying ‘there’s nothing wrong with being gay’

The England cricket captain, Joe Root, has been praised for challenging an alleged homophobic slur during the third Test match in St Lucia.

Reacting to a comment from the West Indies bowler Shannon Gabriel, Root appears to say: “Don’t use it as an insult, there’s nothing wrong with being gay.”

The exact nature of Gabriel’s comment isn’t clear, although it’s understood he was warned about his language.
