John Douglas Thomson on Othello, Kamala Harris and being stood up

He may have started out as a computer salesman, but John Douglas Thompson is now considered one of America’s finest Shakespearean actors.

He’s currently back in the UK – the country he was born in – making his Royal Shakespeare Company debut in Othello.

He talked to us about reprising that role, the US election and how being stood up on a date led to him becoming an actor.
