Judges to order criminals to attend sentencing hearings

For the victims or relatives who’ve endured the trauma of a trial, the refusal of the offender, once found guilty, to attend their own sentencing, can doubtless seem a travesty of justice.

Today the government said it would create a new power for judges to order offenders to attend hearings – but would their proposals really make a difference in court?
