Khrushchev’s granddaughter on what he may have thought of attempted mutiny

History suggests that when power changes hands in Russia, it often involves bloodshed.

History now sees former Soviet Union leader Nikita Khrushchev as something of a liberal reformer.

Unusually for a Russian, Khrushchev lived on after being ousted, and died a natural death.

His granddaughter, Nina Khrushcheva is a professor of international affairs in New York.

We spoke to her and asked what she thinks her grandfather would have made of recent events.
