Labour call for VAT to be scrapped on energy bills

The argument about how best to respond to looming rises in household fuel bills intensified today.

Labour says that oil and gas operators should face a windfall tax to fund the removal of VAT from domestic energy bills. But the government say they’ve already committed billions of pounds to helping ordinary people.

Meanwhile energy companies have been in talks with the regulator.
