Labour reject austerity and insist better times are coming

At the Labour Party Conference, Chancellor Rachel Reeves struck a more positive tone about the economy after weeks of doom-laden warnings.

She told delegates that her “optimism for Britain burns brighter than ever” and told them that there would be no return to austerity.

But they will have to wait until the Budget at the end of next month to hear how she will manage that.  She did confirm she would not reverse the cut to winter fuel payments.
