Last Syrian rebels face imminent onslaught

Britain has decided to end a scheme funding Syrian opposition groups, saying the situation on the ground was making it too risky to carry on. Emergency humanitarian relief will continue, as the last pockets of rebel territory face an imminent onslaught from President Assad’s forces.

Jan Egeland, who chairs the UN taskforce on humanitarian access in Syria, says he fears “human suffering like perhaps none we’ve seen before in this conflict”.
