Lebanon’s deadliest day in decades as Israeli strikes kill hundreds

Senior Political Correspondent

Hundreds dead and more than a thousand injured. Lebanon has suffered its deadliest day of conflict in almost two decades under intense Israeli bombardment.

Across the country, civilians have been receiving automated messages from Israel telling them to evacuate their homes.

In the past few hours, Israel has carried out what they say is a targeted attack on a Hezbollah commander in Beirut – one of a series of strikes throughout the day by the Israeli army across the country including in the north-eastern city of Baalbek and the Hermel district, as well as the Beqaa Valley.

More than 90 villages have been attacked around the third largest city in the country, Sidon.
